It's been a few years since i had any actual business cards, so i had Hound dog Press run some big ole' thick ones. I wanted to include my silly tagline, and keep it simple. Mission accomplished. Letterpressed on 220lb Lettra stock.
Typography 33
Last month The Type Directors Club released the thirty-third edition of their annual typography book, featuring winners from the 2011 typographic competition. Needless to say i haven't been able to put it down. More than ever i'm humbled to be included with so much amazing work.
From Paula Scher's cover art, to the layout, this book is gorgeous and is a bargain for the nearly 400 pages of inspiration. It's available for purchase HERE.
Forest Giant Letterpress Calendar Card
The Forest Giant crew had the best idea for Christmas cards. Instead of cards, why not a set of letterpressed calendar cards, highlighting each season for clients & acquaintances. Awesome, right?! I got the privilege to design the winter months. I decided to treat a famous quote by Pietro Aretino. It was printed here in Louisville by the super rad folks at Hound Dog Press. The card was printed with black & silver ink.
Everybody Matters
Back in October i was asked to participate in a group show entitled "We Made This for You" which was an opportunity for artists to make art as a gift to individuals or organizations that wouldn’t be able to have their art otherwise. The show was commissioned by sojourn Visual arts.
I've always admired the history and work of Boys & Girls Haven here in Louisville, KY and wanted to create something that proclaimed a simple message for the boys & girls they serve. I took the opportunity to create a piece that was a bit more ornate than my usual type treatments and a huge thanks goes to John Passafiume for taking the time to give me a few pointers.
Last week the show ended, and the piece was transported to Boys & Girls Haven to be hung above their gymnasium entrance, which serves as the resident's activity center as well as host to meetings and campus functions. Additionally I had letterpress cards of the graphic printed at Hound Dog Press for attendees of the show and for the staff of Boys & Girls Haven. Needless to say this was an amazing project that I am grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute.
Made with Over
Just last fall I was approached by Aaron Marshall to develop the logo and brand elements for an idea he had. It was for an app called Over. I was completely in love with the idea from the start. Users use their iphone or ipad to add beautiful typography to their photos.
My goal was to create something simple and memorable that allowed the photography and content to take center stage. After countless concepts & revisions, I kept coming back to a simple circle.
Over released just a few months a go, and i'm proud to say it is in the top 10 paid apps in the app store right now! You can purchase the app HERE. You can also test drive the free version of the app, Overgram, HERE.
